Meet Avery! Last weekend we rescued this sweet 7 year old boy (formerly #306) off the auction block and out of the puppy mill industry. The auction house does not accept dogs older than 7 for consignment so this was Avery’s last chance to out and we made sure we were there for him!
Avery is a gorgeous boy, typical in size at 18 pounds. This past week he underwent his intake vetting. Avery’s eyes, knees, and hips are clear and congenitally sound, while a mild heart murmur was detected due to mitral valve disease which plagues the breed. His tick borne illness test came back positive for Ehrlichia. Thankfully, the rest of his bloodwork came back okay and he shows no clinical signs of the disease so the antibodies detected may just be a result of exposure and not infection. We are running off an additional test which will help us determine if any treatment is needed. If it is needed, treatment consists of a month of Doxycycline (oral antibiotic).
We are also treating Avery for ear infections and next week he is scheduled to undergo his neuter and much needed dental. In the meantime, he is learning what it is like to live in the comforts of a home and receive the love of a family in his foster home in Liberty Hill, Texas 💜
