🌱 Safe and secured fenced yard
🐶 Happiest as only dog
🏡 Someone home most of the day/low alone hours
💜 Older, gentle children okay

Last month we welcomed in sweet 6 year old (1/29/2016) Bramlett into our care after he was released to us by his former family who felt that they could not give him the time and attention that he deserved and needed to be happy and thrive. Upon arrival, he underwent his intake vetting and received a great report! Bramlett is congenitally sound with clear eyes, knees, hips, and heart, and all his labwork came back normal and negative. He arrived already neutered, but was overdue and in need of a dental cleaning. He lost a few bad teeth which he doesn't miss one bit and is fully recovered from the procedure. Bramlett is now to date on vaccinations, neutered, had a recent dental, microchipped, and on monthly preventatives. He does not have any medical issues, is not on any medications, and does not require any vetting outside of regular wellness checks at this time.

Bramlett is a handsome guy and larger in size at 26 pounds, which is his ideal weight. Like most Cavaliers, he is all about his food and is separated and supervised during meal time or else he will visit everyone's bowl. Strictly portioned meals along with limited healthy treats and daily exercise will help keep him fit. Bramlett has been impressive in the pottying department in his foster home as he has not had a single accident in the house. That said, he does go out frequently and has plenty of opportunities to be successful. He should go out first thing in the morning, after meals, every few hours throughout the day and right before bed especially initially until he learns his new environment and routine. He does have and utilizes a doggie door in his foster home and has learned to take himself out.

Bramlett's foster family describes him as sweet, loving, and loyal. Bramlett is what we call a "velcro" dog in that he is always, always right by your side wanting to be with you and receiving your affection and attention. We understand that he spent a lot of time alone in his previous home which has left him extra 'needy' and craving a lot of reassurance and attention. He truly soaks up all the love you will give him and needs a family who will embrace his ‘neediness’ and devote a lot of time and attention to him. In return, you will get an amazing best friend who will be sure you never feel lonely again 💕 Bramlett's foster mom works from home which is perfect for him. He is the perfect 'assistant' and lays in a dog bed right by her desk while she works. He is very happy and very content just being with you. In order to thrive and be happy, he needs a family where he can be with a human most of the day. Bramlett would not do well in a 'busy' family or one where everyone works outside of the home - a retirement lifestyle, stay at home parent, someone who works from home, or works part time would be best.

During the times when no humans are home, Bramlett stays in a puppy proofed area of the home and does well. Crate containment can cause anxiety and because he is reliably potty trained and perfect house guest, he does not need one and we do not recommend the use of one with him. At night he sleeps in the big bed with his foster parents, where all Cavaliers belong 🥰 Bramlett feels safest and happiest close to his people and sleeps happily and soundly right beside them. We are seeking a family who will continue to welcome him into bed for this special quality snuggle time.

We understand that one of the challenges that his previous family faced was that Bramlett was a darter, meaning that he would dart out an open door. We have taken this seriously in foster care as his safety is the utmost importance and have been working with him on training. Not only is it important that every one in the family be extra vigilant about doors and any accessibility for him, but it is important to continue his training and to be sure you communicate what you want and expect from him. You must tell him to 'sit' and 'stay' and always practice these skills with him. He is very eager to please and responds to positive training very well. He is also very food motivated and so reinforcing his good behaviors with a high value treat will certainly help!

Bramlett is a bit of a wild man on a leash and could use continued training in this area. He gets very excited and enthusiastic and has a hard time focusing making him a bit all over the place. Once he gets his stride going he calms down and walks nicely. While we do think continued daily walks are important and healthy for him and should be continued and practiced, we feel like he needs a safe and secured fenced yard for potty purposes and to enjoy the outdoors. In the evenings he loves to be on the porch in his favorite spot - his foster mom's lap. Given his past history of darting, we will be checking to ensure the fencing and gate is very secure during the home visit.

Because Bramlett is ALL about his relationship with his humans, he would be happiest not having to share to his home or mom’s lap with any other dogs so we are seeking a home where he can be the spoiled rotten only pup. He has not been around any cats in our care so we do not know how he would respond to living with a feline furiend. We think he would do well in both an adult only home or a home with older, gentle children. In true Cavalier fashion, he knows no stranger, loves everyone and greets them with an eager wagging tail and happy smile.

His foster family calls him the 'perfect companion' - he would rather be in your lap than playing or getting in to trouble. He just wants to have someone to love him and spend time with him 💜 We know that his former environment and lifestyle did not work for him - no yard, long alone hours, and crated often where as we are seeing a different Bramlett in foster care where he is able to spend his day with a human, is not crated at all, and can enjoy the freedom of a fenced yard. It is very important to us that we are able to replicate this in his furever family where he know he will be happy and thrive. If you feel you are the perfect match for darling, healthy, loving Bramlett, please complete an adoption application found on our website and then email us at CavalierRescueAL@gmail.com to express your interest. Bramlett is being fostered in Temple, Texas (travel there is required), and his requested adoption donation is $450.
