MEET SWEET EMILY 💕 Emily is a 7 year old breeder retiree/release. The long term neglect and suffering was immediately obvious by the smell of rot and infection from her mouth and ears. At her intake vetting we learned that in addition to the severe ear infections, and dental disease, she is also suffering with hookworms, tapeworms and a urinary tract infection. She has an asymptomatic heart murmur which we may see improve now that her dental healthy has been addressed.
Perhaps the biggest concern are her eyes which warrant a consult with our ophthalmologist. Her tear tests was 0 and she has mature cataracts as well as a noticeable and concerning size difference of her eyes. Tomorrow she will see our ophthalmologist where we will learn more about what is going on and what the course of action is.
Today she underwent her much needed dental, resulting in the loss of many of her teeth, and spay surgery. She isn’t going to miss those painful teeth one bit! She is now in her foster home in Birmingham, Alabama, resting and recovering from surgery and receiving treatment for all her ailments. We will be sure to keep you posted about her ophthalmology appointment.
Miss Emily’s needs have been neglected for far too long and we are eager to get her healthy and feeling good again. We suspect it has been a very long time since she has TLC.
UPDATE August 27: Emily, our little teddy bear , underwent cataract surgery today here in Birmingham, Alabama. If you recall she has microphthalmia eye meaning the eye is small and undeveloped. Thankfully this is nothing more than a cosmetic issue but she did require a super tiny lens to be implanted today. She did well and her intraocular pressure is being closely monitored overnight. We are so happy to have this surgery behind her and to help improve her vision 🙌🏻
UPDATE September 5th; :Miss Emily had a great recheck at the ophthalmologist 💜 She is a week out from cataract surgery and everything is looking great! Her pressure is nice and low, as you can see she is clocking in at 9. She will return back next week where as long as all still looks great, we will begin to taper down the medications 👌🏻
