UPDATE AUGUST 5, 2022: Earlier this week we introduced you to sweet 5 year old Mercy who and has since undergone her full intake vetting and has met with our ophthalmologist for a consultation.
While 15 pound Mercy’s heart 🩺 , knees, and hips 🦴 are clear and congenitally sound, she does have some significant eye issues (like her sister Gracie) that have obviously been going on for quite some time without proper care. She has “dry eye” meaning she is not producing an adequate amount of tears. In fact, she isn’t producing any tears at this time. This total dryness, without proper intervention, has caused lots of secondary issues like infection, inflammation, the build up of excess pigment which causes visual impairment, and of course a lot of discomfort. She has met with our ophthalmologist and is on several eye medications used to treat the infection, reduce the inflammation, dissolve the pigment, provide lubrication, and stimulate her tear gland to work better to produce more tears.
Thankfully all of her labwork including her heartworm and tick borne illness test, fecal test, urinalysis, and bloodwork were all negative and normal. She underwent her spay surgery and dental where she lost just 2 bad teeth and has recovered well 💕
Adorable Mercy is currently in Ider, Alabama but will be making a move to Birmingham, Alabama in the next couple of weeks to be closer to her ophthalmologist for her ongoing eye care 💜
