Welcome in, Newman! Newman is a 9 week old puppy (DOB 1/16/2020) who just came into our care as a breeder release. Newman was due to be sold to a family but didn’t “pass” his vetting check before going home because of 2 loose knees. Newman has a lot of growing to do and it is impossible to know at this time whether his knees will tighten up or whether he will always have luxating patellas and if so, what the severity will be.

Our newest arrival, baby Newman, has had his intake vetting. Because he is just 9 weeks old and not full vaccinated / protected, we do “house call” appointments in the foster home, for the safety of our pups. Newman clocked in at 4 pounds, 14 ounces and his physical exam confirmed what we were told about his “loose knees”. At this time we have no reason to believe this is anything but “puppy laxity” which is quite common and means they will tighten up on their own as he grows and develops. Of course if they don’t, then when age appropriate he could possibly require knee stabilization surgery and that is something his furever family will just have to know, understand, and be prepared for should that be the case. The rest of his physical exam checked out fine. His fecal test was positive for giardia which was to be expected based on the environment he came out of, so he is being treated accordingly.
He is due to see our vet again in a couple weeks for his next puppy vaccination and we will recheck his fecal and knees at that time. Newman is being fostered in Birmingham, Alabama, and is not yet available for adoption. Please refrain from contacting us with your interest at this time. Rather, keep watch here for more updates to come 💜
