Sweet 9 year old Peaches 🍑 had her intake vetting yesterday here in Birmingham, Alabama. She had an overall great report - she is miraculously still congenitally sound at this time with clear eyes, hips, knees, and heart ❤️ We have already treated her for dental disease and she has undergone her spay surgery and dental cleaning. The only thing we are treating her for at this time is ear infections. Her fecal, heartworm, and tick borne illness tests were all negative, and her urinalysis was normal.
Her bloodwork, though, left us with some concerns. She had some wonky chemistry values that had us wondering about Addison’s Disease - a hormonal disorder caused by the deficient production of the adrenal gland hormones cortisol and aldosterone. We decided to go ahead and move forward with the diagnosing test, the ACTH test, to rule Addison’s Disease out. Our hope is that the test results, which we should get back Monday, are normal, and moving forward we will recheck her bloodwork in 30 days to see if any of the wonky values are stabilizing.
Peaches is in excellent shape for her age and is a spry, active 9 year old who is sweet and social and ready to soak up all the freedom and love that has newly entered her life 💕
PEACHES UPDATE 🍑 The results for Peaches’ ACTH test (for Addison’s Disease) came back negative and normal. We are starting her on a liver supplement and of course good groceries and nutrition and will be rechecking her chemistry in 30 days in hopes of seeing her wonky values straighten out.
Meanwhile, she is settling in furbulously into her foster home in Atlanta, Georgia 💜
