Welcome in, Wrigley! đź’™ This sweet boy found himself dumped in an Alabama shelter and was then transferred into our care. We were told that he is about 6 years old and was vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped during his shelter stay. This afternoon he is visiting our vet in Birmingham, Alabama for his full intake vetting and we will be sure to post his full medical update when all his labwork results are in đź’ś
Wrigley is happy to have been sprung out of the shelter and seems to know there are good things coming for him! He’ll spend the weekend getting all comfy and settled into his foster home in Hoover, Alabama 🏡
UPDATE APRIL 8, 2024: A few days ago, we sprung darling 17 pound Wrigley out of an Alabama shelter where he had been dumped by his former family. We were told that he is about 6 years old and Wrigley was vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped during his shelter stay. He visited with our vet for a thorough physical exam and full labwork…
Wrigley’s fecal, heartworm, and tick borne illness tests were negative, and his urinalysis and bloodwork were normal. Additionally, his eyes, knees, and hips were found to be clear and congenitally sound at this time. His skin and coat are healthy and teeth are clean. He does have ear infections which he is now receiving treatment for. His neuter incision is healing well.
An audible heart murmur was detected, likely due to mitral valve disease which of course plagues the breed. Wrigley should get an echocardiogram to learn more about the severity of his disease and as a baseline so that any progression can best be monitored and managed. We will get him on the schedule to see our cardiologist but if he can’t get in before he becomes ready for adoption, then we will ask that his adopting family take care of this for him.
Sweet Wrigley will return back to the vet in 2 weeks to recheck his ears and ensure his neuter is all healed up. In the meantime, he’s made himself right at home in his foster home in Hoover, Alabama🏡 where his foster mom reports that he’s super friendly and well behaved 💜

UPDATE APRIL 21, 2024: We are still getting to know our newest guy, Wrigley in Hoover, Alabama, but he’s already let us know 1 requirement for his furever home ⤵️
🧺 A basket full of toys 🧸💕
I think we will be able to arrange that! ✔️
UPDATE May 9, 2024: Wrigley’s resting up 💤 after his big day today at the cardiologist 🩺 where his heart was fully evaluated after a murmur was detected at his intake vetting ❤️ Good news - although sweet 6 year old Wrigley has a heart murmur due to mitral valve disease (MVD), which of course plagues the breed, his echocardiogram revealed that his cardiac structure has not changed and is still within normal limits. This places him in stage B1 with just mild mitral valve disease and not requiring any heart medications at this time.Of course his MVD does need to continue to be monitored for life through recheck echocardiograms performed by a cardiologist so that any progression of the disease can be detected and managed with medication.Wrigley’s vetting is now complete ✔️ and we will soon begin to work with his foster family to get him listed for adoption. Wrigley is being fostered in Hoover, Alabama 💜
