MEET AJAX 🐶Precious Ajax came to us as a transfer from another rescue who felt breed rescue was the best place for him - we agree and are thankful that they entrusted us with his care and placement. 1 year old Ajax (DOB 4/5/2022) has not had any stability the first year of his life and he is now looking for his perfect furever family to settle down and live his best life with! MEDICAL 🩺Ajax is now a healthy and happy 1 year old boy! He is now up to date on vaccinations, neutered, had a recent dental cleaning, microchipped, and on monthly preventatives. Upon intake, we treated him for hookworms and a urinary tract infection, both which have now been effectively treated. His eyes, hips, heart, and knees were found to be clear and congenitally sound at this time and all of his labwork including his fecal test, heartworm and tick borne illness test, bloodwork, and urinalysis is now all normal and negative. Ajax is a healthy boy who is not on any medications and does not require any additional vetting outside of regular wellness checks at this time. FOOD & POTTY HABITS 🥘Ajax is a handsome black and tan boy who is typical in size and at his ideal weight of 15 pounds. As this young boy continues to fill out, so is his coat and feathering which are growing beautifully. Like most Cavaliers, Ajax loves food and is very excited for his meals and treats. He eats his twice a day Fromm meals where he always licks his bowl clean. Supervision at mealtime is needed to ensure he doesn't visit the other dogs' bowls after he races to finish his. He also loves treats and is working on good manners when taking a treat and needs to be reminded. His adopting family should continue his portioned meals, healthy treats, and daily exercise and activity to ensure he remains at his ideal weight, best health, and best self. Ajax is doing wonderful with his potty training as long as he is kept on a schedule and given frequent opportunities outside to be successful. He should be taken out first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and every couple hours in between including immediately after meals. In his foster home, he is let out into the safe and secured fenced yard for pottying where he should always be supervised. Supervision is necessary not only to ensure this curious boy doesn't get into any trouble, but also to ensure that he potties before he comes back in as he can become easily distracted by all the fun things outside! Because he is food motivated, a special high value treat immediately following good outdoor potty behavior will be excellent reinforcement for this little foodie. Please know that even though Ajax is doing wonderful with his potty training in his foster home, continued training is necessary and accidents are always to be expected, especially initially while he learns and transitions to another environment and routine. PERSONALITY 💕Ajax's foster mom describes him as playful, active, and athletic. His long legs are perfect for running and bounding through the yard looking for birds and squirrels and fetching toys and balls. He is toy crazy and always has to have a toy nearby to play with or chew on. Although he is one and a half years old, he is very puppy like and exploring everything for the first time with excitement and enthusiasm. He is an active boy with a lot of energy and needs plenty of opportunity for play, exercise, and activity. Once he has run out of steam and worn himself out, his Cavalier cuddly side comes out where he loves to snuggle up with his people. Ajax is equally loving and sweet as he is active and playful. ROUTINE ⏰Ajax starts his day with a trip outside in the yard for pottying and then back in for breakfast. The rest of the day is then spent with his foster mom and Cavalier foster siblings where he enjoys plenty of fun, play, toys, snuggles, and outdoor adventures like leashed walks, car rides, or trips to the beach. In the evening, he enjoys dinner, more playtime, and then snuggles before bed. While he spends much of his time with his foster mom, during times when there are no humans at home, Ajax stays in a gated off puppy proofed area of the home where he has plenty of room, comforts, and the companionship of his Cavalier foster siblings. He has not been crated or otherwise strictly confined while in our care and we do not recommend that he is. He does well left for short periods of time but he is certainly happiest being with his people and being active and so we are seeking a family where someone can be with him much of the day where he will have low alone time and lots of time for activity. At night, Ajax sleeps in the big bed close to his foster mom where he sleeps well and recharges for another fun day ahead. He would not do well being asked to sleep apart from his people, and so we are seeking a family who will continue to invite him into the big bed with them. Who wouldn't want to snuggle up with this darling boy?! SOCIALIZATION 💜Ajax is a friendly, outgoing boy who is generally happy, excited, and enthusiastic about most everything including meeting new people. He does tend to jump up on people to greet them and his foster mom is working with him on his good dog manners as his excitement and wiggles can get the best of him. He is a secure, curious, and confident pup who we have not found to be scared or startled by much of anything at all. We feel he would do well in an active adult only home or a home with gentle well-behaved children who have had dog experience and know how to engage with him gently and appropriately. He does need continued positive based puppy training to be the best pup that he can be, and so we will be asking that his family provide that for him and participate in it with him. Ajax shares his foster home with other Cavaliers who welcomed him in and whom he gets along with very well. He loves to play with the younger, playful ones, and cuddle up and nap with the older, mellow ones. He has no problem sharing his toys with his siblings and loves when they play with them with him, including a good game of tug of war! Ajax would be happiest and thrive best with another playful canine companion in his home and that is what we will be seeking for him. His perfect match would be another young, active, playful Cavalier or other dog of similar temperament who also loves toys and will engage in play and puppy antics with him, but also welcome his cuddles and snuggles. He has not been exposed to any cats in our care so we are unsure how he would do living with a feline furiend. Ajax is very happy to get out and about and go on walks and adventures but being on leash is brand new to him and he needs continued training and practice in this area as right now he is all over the place on a leash, going every which way and distracted by all his new discoveries. He is an excellent car rider though and rides safely and comfortably in his boosted car seat. He loves adventures and to tag along with you whenever he can, so we will ask that his family provide one for him.IDEAL HOME & FAMILY 🏡 Most importantly, Ajax needs and deserves a family who has the time, ability, and desire to shower him with so much love and attention and make him an included and important member of their family. He also needs a patient family with the time and energy to meet the needs of an energetic puppy and provide for him the opportunity for plenty of healthy outlets for his energy and help him grow and develop into the best Ajax he can be through gentle and positive training. Therefore, we are seeking a family where someone is able to be with him much of the day and where he will have low alone time. He would do very well in an active and fun home, but not a busy family who would lack the time to devote to him. His humans should be able to provide for him a safe, puppy proofed home and a safe and secured fenced yard so he can continue enjoying his outdoor freedom in. He loves to be outside in the yard exploring, running, playing, and he would love a family who also loves the outdoors and would enjoy spending time outside with him. Lastly, Ajax would be happiest and do best with another active, playful canine companion who would welcome him in with open paws and engage in play with him.
