Archie

Pleasanton, California
Male Age: 9 months (DOB 8/22/2022) 17.7# Knee Repair scheduled for May 15 Adoption donation: TBA
Meet Archie! Archie, is a darling 9 month old boy (DOB 8/2/2022) who came into our care due to a leg injury he recently sustained. It was not improving on its own and his former family was not able to get him the help he needed, so they made the decision to release him into our care. Archie is being fostered in Pleasanton, California πŸ’• Today, Archie will be meeting with a specialist for further evaluation of his knee. We are unsure if this is just an acute injury that needs to some time, medication, and rest to calm down, or if this is something that will require surgical repair. But we are prepared and committed to doing whatever needs to be done to get sweet Archie back to fully enjoying puppyhood! We will share more when we know more πŸ’œ
UPDATE MAY 5, 2023: Handsome 9 month old Archie (DOB 8/2/2022) in Pleasanton, California has now finished his full intake vetting. He came to us already up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped, but we gave him a thorough physical exam and have sent off full labwork that we should have results back on Monday.
Besides his left knee, which is the reason he came into rescue, we are pleased to report that Archie received a perfect exam βœ… His eyes, right knee, hip, and heart are all clear and congenitally sound, and his skin, ears, teeth are all clear and clean. He’s a gorgeous, healthy pup! πŸ’•

We understand that Archie suffered a back leg injury in his former home last month and as a result has an unstable patella and a significant limp that has not improved on its own. We are exploring patella stabilization surgery options for him now. In the meantime, we are starting him on a joint supplement and an anti-inflammatory to see if we can’t get it calmed down a bit and more comfortable for this sweet boy. Archie is being fostered in Pleasanton, California πŸ’œ
UPDATE MAY 12, 2023: Darling 9 month old Archie came into our care due to a leg injury he recently sustained. It was not improving on its own and his former family was not able to get him the help he needed, so they made the decision to release him into our care.Sweet Archie has since met with an orthopedic specialist/surgeon and it was determined that surgery is necessary to repair his knee and give him the comfort and quality of life that he deserves. So tomorrow, Monday, May 15th, Archie will be undergoing patella stabilization surgery. While we hate that Archie has to undergo surgery and recovery, which requires 6 weeks of strict rest - not easy for a puppy - and then rehabiliation, we are very much looking forward to getting this precious boy back on all fours 🐾 and seeing him able to fully enjoy his puppyhood again πŸ’•Archie will be monitored overnight Monday at the vet and if all goes well, he will be able to be discharged on Tuesday to begin recovery in his foster home in Pleasanton, California. Please send well wishes his way and we will be sure to keep you updated πŸ’œ
UPDATE MAY 22, 2023: Last Monday, precious Archie in Pleasanton, California, underwent successful patella stabilization surgery and is resting and recovering well in his foster home β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή. His trochlear groove was deepened and widened and his tibial tuberosity was transposed into alignment and stabilized with hardware, as you can see in his post op radiograph image. Sweet Archie is 1 week into his 6 weeks of strict β€œrest” protocol, to allow for proper healing. This Friday, he will return to see his surgeon for a recheck and for staple removal. While we are so thrilled to have the big surgery and immediate post-op days behind him, it’s a long road to full recovery for this darling young boy πŸ™πŸ» We know it will all be worth it in the end to see Archie be able to live his life to the fullest with no discomfort, limping, or limitations πŸ™ŒπŸΌ In the meantime, he’s taking it all in stride and being a trooper… and his wonderful foster family is giving him the best of care and all their love and comfort πŸ’•
