Welcome in, Carrie 💕 Carrie is a sweet 6 year old girl who comes to us as her owner has moved into assisted living and no longer able to continue her care. Carrie is getting settled into her foster home in the Atlanta, Georgia area 🏡 and will undergo her full intake vetting tomorrow. We will be sure to post her medical update when we have all her labwork results in ✔
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 5 2024: Sweet 6 year old Carrie is headed home from meeting with a specialist today. She’s had breathing trouble since her arrival consistent with BAOS - bracycephalic airway obstruction syndrome due to her elongated palate which has resulted in upper airway obstruction and her labored, noisy breathing and gagging. Not only is this a quality of life concern, but the labored breathing can also place a great deal of strain on the heart, which of course Cavaliers cannot afford to risk with their already predisposed heart issues. Although Carrie does not have an audible heart murmur, we went ahead and did an echocardiogram to ensure her heart has not been negative effected by her breathing and thankfully it has not been yet. But in time, it would be…And so today, she met with a board certified soft tissue surgeon to discuss a laser procedure which will remove the excess tissue that’s causing obstruction and thus opening up her airway - this is called an elongated palate resection. After the consultation today, Carrie is believed to be a good candidate for the procedure and we are looking to move forward with it to both improve her quality of life and also prevent secondary heart issues, essentially also improving her quantity of life. Simply put, Carrie deserves to breathe easy! 🙏🏻She is scheduled for the procedure next Wednesday. Please see the below estimate ⬇️ for the upcoming procedure.
