Welcome in, Hamilton! Earlier this week we let you know that another Alabama breeder has closed up shop and we have taken in the Cavaliers. We already introduced you to sweet Delilah - now meet Hamilton, an adorable 1 year, 9 month old boy (DOB 10/28/2022).
Hamilton is being fostered in Harvest, Alabama, and is undergoing his full intake vetting this morning. We will be sure to post a medical pupdates when all his labwork results are in 💜
UPDATE AUGUST 13, 2024:This darling 1 year, 9 month old boy (DOB 10/28/2022) is typical in size and at his ideal weight of 17 pounds. His fecal test and heartworm test was negative and his bloodwork and urinalysis was normal. However, he did test positive for Ehrlichia, a tick borne illness. This can come back positive for both past exposure as well as current infection so we sent off an additional test to help determine if treatment is needed. Since his bloodwork came back normal and he isn’t showing any clinic symptoms, we believe this may be a positive antigen from past exposure but we are awaiting test results to guide us. We found his eyes, hips, and heart to be clear and congenitally sound at this time, while his knees are just mildly loose (grade 1) and may stabilize, strengthen, and tighten up now that he is no longer confined and has plenty of opportunity for activity. We are also treating him for ear infections. Sweet Hamilton will return to the vet at the end of next week to ensure his neuter incision is healed up and that his ear infections have cleared up. We should also know by then if he needs to undergo treatment for the tick borne illness and will be sure to keep you updated 💜
UPDATE AUGUST 17, 2024:Good news to report on sweet Hamilton in Harvest, Alabama 🐾 Hamilton tested positive for Ehrlichia, a tick-borne illness, on his intake Accuplex testing which doesn’t differentiate between past exposure and current infection. Because all his other bloodwork was perfect and he doesn’t have any clinical symptoms associated with tick borne illness, we suspected this was from a past exposure… and we were right! ⤵️
The additional PCR testing we ran to differentiate between active infection and past exposure confirmed our thoughts as it came back negative, meaning no treatment is needed 🙌🏼 He can continue to test positive for exposure for years so we will be sure his furever family knows to expect that and understands what this means.
Hamilton will return to the vet this upcoming week for a recheck of his ear infections and to ensure he’s all healed up from his recent neuter surgery ✔️
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 18, 2024:Foster sibling love 💕 Rescue alum Jana (ruby) and foster Hamilton (Blenheim) sharing some sweet snuggles 🥰
