Welcome in, Rookie! Rookie is 1 of the 7 dogs we rescued from a bad breeding operation in Georgia. Unfortunately there were no records kept on the dogs but we were told he is around 5 years old.
Rookie has made the short trip over to Birmingham, Alabama as he has severe eye issues that can best be managed by our wonderful ophthalmologist here. Heβs had a very busy week of intake vetting, ophthalmology consultation, and surgery and we will soon catch you on to speed with his full medical update. In the meantime, know heβs making himself right at home in his foster home in Birmingham, Alabama and seems thrilled with his new way of life πPoor Rookie came into our care in rough shape. This 5 year old 15 pound darling boy was suffering with several medical issues stemming from severe medical neglect which included ear infections, eye infections, dry eye, advanced dental disease, and parasites. His badly infection mouth and ears wreaked and his raw puffy eyelids, completely dry sandpaper eyes, and scabby nose just screamed discomfort and pain. Still, his body wiggled and his tail wagged π
We got started right away on getting Rookie treated - he started antibiotics and then underwent his neuter and dental where he lost 11 rotten teeth. He also saw our wonderful ophthalmologist where he was diagnosed with pigmentary keratitis, keratoconjunctivis sicca (dry eye), and immune mediate blepharitis. We will share more about what those eye conditions means but know that heβs now on many eye medications that we hope he will respond well to. We can visibly see that his eyes are much more comfortable as they are being treated and lubricated around the clock. Rookie has been dewormed and his ear infections are being treated.
He has recovered well from his neuter and big dental and has a recheck coming up this week to ensure everything is healed up and all his infections are clearing. Rookie has made himself right at home in his foster home in Birmingham, Alabama and we will continue to bring you updates as we work to restore him to good health and his best self π
