Ruby

Berkley Lake, Georgia
Female Age: 6 (DOB 9/20/2019) #15 Health: TBA Adoption Donation: TBA
Our first Cavalier of the new year - welcome in, Ruby! Ruby is a precious 6 year old girl (DOB 9/20/2019) who we understand was a former breeding dog, then placed with a family, then returned to the breeder, before being released to us. Today she will undergo her intake vetting appointment and will get settled into her foster home in Berkeley Lake, Georgia 🏡 We will be sure to post her medical update once all her labwork results are in 💜
UPDATE JANUARY 23, 2026: Last week we introduced you to precious 6 Ruby (DOB 9/20/2019) who we just welcomed into our care. She has now undergone her full intake vetting…Ruby is typically in size and at her ideal weight of 15.6 pounds. We didn’t receive any medical records on Ruby and so we sent off titer tests for distemper and parvo to see if she already has protection and immunity and are still awaiting those results. And while we didn’t see any obvious incision scarring, we sent out hormone testing so we could feel more sure about her spay status. The results were positive for the presence of ovarian tissue affirming that Ruby is intact and will need to be spayed. Ruby’s heartworm and tick borne illness test was negative and her bloodwork and urinalysis was normal, but her fecal test was positive for hookworms and whipworms. She is now receiving treatment to eradicate these intestinal parasites and her fecal will be rechecked upon completion of treatment. Otherwise, Ruby’s eyes and ears checked out to be clear and a very mild grade 1 heart murmur was detected due to the onset of mitral valve disease (MVD) which of course plagues the breed. Lastly, while her left knee is stable, her right knee was found to have instability with a medial shift. From what we have assessed of Ruby thus far, this does not seem to give her any trouble nor does it impact her mobility. To ensure it stays this way, Ruby should not do any jumping (like on and off furniture) and should remain at her ideal weight. She is learning to use pet steps for furniture and will also be starting a daily joint supplement chew. Ruby is scheduled to undergo her spay surgery and dental cleaning next week and we will be sure to let you know that all went well. Her foster family reports she is settling in wonderfully and is such a sweet girl 💕 Ruby is being fostered in Berkeley Lake, Georgia 💜

UPDATE FEBRUARY 4, 2026: Last week, our darling Ruby underwent her spay surgery with an umbilical hernia repair and dental requiring 5 extractions. She and her foster siblings are taking the rest and recovery orders very seriously 💤💕 Next week, she will return to the vet to ensure she’s all healed up and for a fecal recheck in hopes that we’ve successfully eradicated the intestinal parasites that she arrived with. We will be sure to let you know the results.
