MEET SADIE πΆ
Back in June, we rescued 17 Cavaliers, including Sadie and her three day old puppies, out of a filthy hot Alabama puppy mill. While the other Cavaliers rescued were able to get on with fully enjoying their new found freedom and finding their perfect furever families, Sadie was being mom around the clock to her fragile puppies. Despite receiving no prenatal care and being neglected herself, Sadie stepped up and provided excellent care to the babies who grew big, strong, healthy and are thriving in their furever homes. Now, it is finally time for sweet Sadie to get a family of her own too!
MEDICAL π©Ί
We were not provided any records or information on Sadie but believe she is about 5 years old. She is now a healthy girl who is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, had a recent dental (with 5 extractions), is microchipped, and on monthly preventatives. All her labwork including her fecal test, heartworm and tick borne illness test, urinalysis, and bloodwork is normal and negative. Additionally, she is found to be congenitally sound with clear eyes, knees, hips, and heart. Sadie is on any medication and does not require any additional vetting outside of regular wellness checks at this time.
FOOD & POTTY HABITS π₯
Sadie lost a lot of her fur after having puppies which is normal and to be expected, but her new coat is starting to grow back in beautifully now that she is receiving excellent care and groceries. She is a good eater and enjoying her twice a day Fromm meals and healthy treats. She eats slower than her Cavalier foster siblings so she is fed separate from the others so she can take her time without the sharks circling! She is typical in size and at her ideal weight of 16.4 pounds. Her adopting family must remain committed to continuing her portioned meals, healthy treats, and daily activity/exercise to ensure she remains at her ideal weight, best health, and best self!
Sadie is doing very well with her potty training as long as she is given plenty of opportunities outside to be successful. She should be taken out first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and every couple of hours throughout the day including right after meals, to ensure continued potty training success. She does not 'signal' or alert that she needs to potty and so it is important that her family take the initiative to take her out regularly and frequently. Sadie is let out into the fenced in yard for pottying during the day, but will also go potty when she is taken out on her evening leashed walks. She is a treat motivated girl and a special high value treat immediately following good potty behavior will be excellent reward and reinforcement for her. Although Sadie is now reliable in her foster home, please know that accidents are to be expected initially while she transitions and learns a new environment and routine.
PERSONALITY π
Sadie has an exuberant personality and she's always up for any adventure as long as it includes getting to spend time with her people! Whether itβs a walk, a car ride to do errands, or a trip outside to the garden, Sadie is your shadow, sidekick, and constant companion. Her foster mom describes her as spunky, sweet, and curious. She's a perfect mix of active and playful, but also sweet and snuggly. She likes to run around the yard and play with her furiends, but then is very happy to snuggle up on the couch with you. Her favorite things are laps, treats, and chewing on bully sticks. While she has not yet discovered toys, she has shown some interest in balls recently.
ROUTINE β°
Sadie starts her day around 7am with a roll around in bed requesting belly rubs! Then she's eager to get up and out and will run way ahead of everyone to get outside but keeps running back to make sure everyone else is coming along. After breakfast, she will find a comfy spot in the home office along with her Cavalier foster siblings while her foster mom works from home - she always sticks close by her person. Every few hours, they are taken outside in the yard for pottying, exploring, sunshine, and fresh air. During the short periods of time when there are no humans at home, Sadie and her Cavalier foster siblings have free roam of the puppy-proofed house where she has plenty of space, comforts, and companionship. She has shown us that she has separation anxiety which has lessened over time but still present and will need to be managed. Over time she will learn that you will always return back to her, but this will take time as she's never had a person before and still learning. Her anxiety is amplified with the addition of 'containment', like in a crate, pen, behind a closed door, etc., as she then becomes desperate to break through barriers thinking that she will be able to get to you, and so she does best given more space. Because of her separation anxiety, we are seeking a family where someone is able to be with her much of the day and where she will have low alone time.
In the evenings, Sadie enjoys her dinner and then spends time outdoors with her foster family around the pool or in the garden. When the temperature drops, she goes for her daily evening leashed stroll through the neighborhood which she enjoys! She is a great leash walker and enjoys getting out of the house exploring and socializing. After last potty of the night, Sadie heads to bed and picks her perfect spot in the big bed, plastered right up against her person of course where she sleeps well throughout the night knowing she is safe and sound with you. She uses a footstool or pet steps to safely get on and off the bed and will ask that her family provide these for her. Sadie would not do well sleeping apart from her people and we are seeking a family who will continue to invite her into the big bed and welcome her close cuddles.
SOCIALIZATION π
Sadie is your quintessential Cavalier who knows no stranger and greets everyone with a smile and wagging tail. She is a happy, friendly, social girl who will happily receive attention and affection from all willing to give it. Fast hands will still startle her so it's best to move slowly and let her acknowledge your hand before you reach for her as to not scare her. We feel she would do well in an active adult only home or a home with gentle, well behaved, dog savvy children who know how to engage with her gently, appropriately, and respect her space and boundaries. We feel she is an adaptable girl who will be happy in a variety of different home environments, as long as she's around her people and has low alone time.
Sadie shares her foster home with other Cavaliers whom she gets along with very well, and is even starting to engage in play with them! She enjoys their companionship, follows their lead, and loves to snuggle up with them. Sadie would be happiest and do best with another Cavalier companion in the home, or other dog of similar size and temperament. Her ideal match would be another active Cavalier who will enjoy going on walks and engaging in play with her. She has not been exposed to cats in our care, but we feel she would likely do fine with a dog friendly cat in the home.
Sadie is a social girl who loves getting out and about and accompanying you on errands and little adventures. She is a great leash walker and excellent traveler, riding safely and comfortably in her Snoozer boosted car seat which we will ask that her family get for her. She does well in public and social settings and would love to be able to visit places and be with you as much as she can. She has accompanied her foster mom on several rescues, and has been in pet friendly stores, and even enjoyed an outdoor festival. As long as she is with you, she's a happy girl!
IDEAL FAMILY & HOME π‘
Most importantly, Sadie needs a warm, loving, committed family who has the time to devote to her, who will shower her with so much love, and treat her as a treasured and beloved member of the family. We are seeking a family where someone is able to be with her much of the day so she will have low alone hours and lots of quality time with her people. Her family needs to be gentle and patient with her as she works through her separation anxiety and learns that her people will always return. We feel she would enjoy and benefit from some positive based training classes and will ask that her family provide that for her and participate in it with her.
Because Sadie is leash trained, we are not requiring a safe and secured fenced yard in her home, but per our adoption agreement, if she is not within a safe and secured outdoor space, she must remain on a leash when outdoors at ALL times. If there is not a fenced yard, her family must be committed to providing her with ample daily opportunities for activity and exercise/walks. That said, Sadie is certainly enjoying her outdoor freedom in the safe and secured fenced yard of her foster home, and so she would love it if her furever home was able to provide this for her.
