UPDATE DECEMBER 22, 2025: We recently introduced you to precious Whitney who came to us by way of a Kentucky shelter. Whitney found stray in early November, in rough shape with open wounds, sat in the shelter, and was never reclaimed. We are very thankful for the shelter’s partnership allowing her to be transferred into our care. Since she was found stray, we don’t know her history, her story, or age, but believe she is about 6 years old. She was vaccinated and spayed while at the shelter and has now visited with our vet so we can start to assess and learn all of her needs. She received a thorough physical exam and full labwork. What we learned is that poor Whitney has quite a lot going on, but thankfully is all very treatable. She is infested with intestinal parasites as she tested positive for hookworms, roundworms, and tapeworms πŸ’” Thankfully she does not have heartworms nor any tick borne illnesses. Her skin tells us that she was also recently infested with fleas as she has secondary inflammation, infection, and hair loss (as seen in photo). She also has ear infections and her spay incision looks to be infected as well. Thankfully her eyes, knees, hips, and heart were all found to be clear and congenitally sound at this time. She desperately needs a dental as you can see and lastly she has a raging urinary tract infection. While Whitney needs quite a lot of medication to tackle all of these things, she let us know that she is having a hard time tolerating it all and so we are going to chip away at things more slowly. This week she will get her spay sutures removed and will be able to finally have a proper bath and receive some topical treatment and care for her skin which will feel nice πŸ› Whitney is a larger girl weighing 28 pounds which we feel is close to her ideal weight. She has the best cheekies and the cutest smudge that just begs for kisses πŸ’‹ While we will never know her whole story we know enough to know that she’s been neglected and suffering for quite some time. But a new chapter has begun that is full of love and care πŸ’• Whitney is being fostered in Jackson, Mississippi and we will continue to keep you updated as we work to restore her to her best health and best self! πŸ’œ
