MEET ARCHIE 🐶
Precious Archie came to us as an owner surrender when he was a 9 month old pup and had just suffered a significant leg injury that left him in pain and limping around. Unfortunately his family was unable to get him the medical help he desperately needed, so they made the decision to release him into our care so that he could. It was heartbreaking to see a young pup down and out and not able to enjoy his puppyhood, but fast forward three and a half months later and Archie is now fully recovered from his knee stabilization surgery, excelling through his physical therapy/rehab, and finally able to live his best puppy life at now 1 year old (DOB 8/2/2022). Archie has been an absolute pleasure to have as part of our rescue family, but he is now ready to begin his new leash on life with a family to call his own. MEDICAL 🩺 Archie is now a healthy and happy 1 year old boy! He is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and on monthly preventatives. He has clear eyes, hips, heart, and now two healthy knees following left knee stabilization surgery that he underwent in May, performed by a board certified orthopedic surgeon. Additionally, all of his labwork including his fecal test, heartworm and tick borne illness test, urinalysis, and bloodwork is normal and negative. He does take a daily joint supplement chew and an omega 3 supplement to support his recently repaired knee, which we would recommend that he continue. Otherwise, he is not on any medications and does not require any additional vetting outside of regular wellness checks at this time. FOOD & POTTY HABITS 🥘 Archie is a handsome blenheim boy who is typical in size and at his ideal weight at this time of 17.4 pounds. Like most Cavaliers, Archie loves food and is very excited for his meals and treats. He eats his twice a day Fromm meals where he always licks his bowl clean and checks to be sure there are no crumbs left behind anywhere else. Because he tends to gobble up his food quickly, his foster family has been using a slow feeder bowl or snuffle mat for his meals to help slow him down. Supervision at mealtime is needed to ensure he doesn't visit the other dogs' bowls after he races to finish his. He loves treats and is working on good manners when taking a treat - like taking them gently from your hand and not trying to take every treat when they're being passed out to all the dogs. He will need gentle reminders as he continues to learn. He loves healthy treats like blueberries, watermelon, and a spoonful of pumpkin. His adopting family should continue his portioned meals, limited healthy treats, and daily exercise and activity to ensure he remains at his ideal weight, best health, and best self. Archie has proven to be reliably potty trained in his foster home, having no accidents. That said, his foster family is sure to provide for him frequent opportunities outside to be successful along with closely watching him when he ventures near the door alerting that he needs to go out. He should be taken out first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and every few hours in between including immediately after meals. In his foster home, he is let out into the safe and secured fenced yard for pottying and since he is a curious pup, he should always be supervised when he is outside to ensure he doesn't get into any trouble. He loves going out for the final potty before bed because he has learned that a special "bedtime treat" follows - we are sure he will be expecting this in his new home too. Gentle praise and love or a small yummy treat immediately following good potty behavior is excellent reinforcement for this sweet, smart boy. Please know that even though Archie is reliable in his foster home, accidents are always to be expected initially while he transitions to another environment and routine. PERSONALITY 💕If Archie was a cartoon character he would be Tigger! He is happy, enthusiastic about everything, and very bouncy! Just like Tigger, he feels he is here to cheer everyone up with puppy kisses, snuggles, and love. He has the most adorable little kangaroo hop when he is excited and will always hop over to greet anyone. It seems as though nothing really worries him or gets him down - he is inherently happy and cheerful and is an absolute joy to be around. The world is a better place because of Archie! His foster mom also describes him as well behaved, brave, and curious. After many months of his injury and recovery holding him back, he is now fully embracing and exploring his puppy hood. He is a very well behaved boy but he is still a puppy, and everything is a potential chew toy for him so his family should be able to closely monitor him and maintain for him a safe and puppy-proofed house. Being a 1 year old boy, he is also very playful and loves playing with his furry foster siblings. Some of his other favorite things are food, exploring the yard, and snuggles. In true Cavalier fashion, he just loves being with you and showering you with so much love in appreciation for spending your time and attention on him. ROUTINE ⏰Archie's day starts with a quick trip outside in the yard for pottying and then a morning walk short after. Archie loves going on walks and adventures and will even help pull out his harness and leash from the bin to help hurry you up and out the door! When he returns home from his walk, he enjoys his breakfast and an interactive toy/game with a few pieces of kibble or treats in them. The hallway then becomes the "fun zone" as Archie and his furry foster siblings love to run back and forth chasing lots of toys! Once his foster mom and dad settle in to work from the home office, Archie will get comfy in one of his favorite spots either under the desk or in the sun by the window. Archie is the perfect co-worker where he will rest quietly or keep himself happy and entertained while you work. He is taken out in the fenced yard throughout the day for pottying, play, fresh air, and sunshine. After dinner and more play and toys, Archie goes on an evening stroll through the neighborhood. He does best with twice a day walks and we are seeking a family committed to continuing this for his health and happiness. Archie spends much of the day with his foster family but during times when there are no humans at home, Archie and his foster siblings stay in a puppy proofed area of the home where he has plenty of room, comfort, and companionship and does well left for short periods of time. He does not need to be crated or otherwise strictly confined, and we do not recommend that he is. He had to be restricted for 6 weeks following his surgery, and he is rightfully over that. At night, he sleeps peacefully in the big bed with his foster family where he recharges for another fun day ahead. Archie would not do well being asked to sleep apart from his people so we are seeking a family who will continue to invite him into the big bed with them. Who wouldn't want to snuggle up with this darling boy?!SOCIALIZATION 💜Archie is a social butterfly who is happy and eager to meet everyone! He is a friendly, outgoing boy who approaches people and other dogs with a wagging tail and smile. He is still learning not to jump up on new people but his excitement and wiggles can get the best of him. He is happy to receive pets and love from anyone willing to give it, and will return it back to you tenfold. We have not found him to be fearful of much, not even fireworks, and he is generally a brave, and appropriately curious boy. He does not have any experience with young children but we feel he would be happy and do well in a home with older, gentle, well behaved children with dog experience and know how to engage with him gently and appropriately, or an active adult only home. Archie has no problem making furiends and sharing his toys. He shares his home with an Australian Shepherd foster sister and Cavalier foster brother, both whom he adores and gets along with very well. He loves to romp, play, and wrestle with his playful foster sister, and then cuddle up and snuggle with his mellow foster brother. Now that Archie is fully healed from his surgery, we've been able to see just how playful, active, and fun he really is and he would be so happy and thrive best with another playful canine companion in the home. His perfect furry match would be another young, active, playful Cavalier or other dog of similar mild temperament who also loves toys, walks, adventures, and will engage in play and puppy antics with him, but also welcome his cuddles and snuggles. He has been exposed to an outdoor cat who he was appropriate with and happy to meet. For this reason, we feel he would likely do well living with a feline furiend.IDEAL HOME & FAMILY 🏡Most importantly, Archie needs and deserves a family who has the time, ability, and desire to shower him with so much love and attention and make him an included and important member of their family. He wants nothing more than to be with you and because he is a young boy who needs plenty of engagement, socialization, activity, attention, and supervision, we are seeking a family who is able to be with him much of the day and where he will have low alone time. He would do very well in an active and fun home, but not a busy family who would lack the time to devote to him. His humans should be able to provide for him a safe, puppy proofed home, plenty of opportunities for play and activity (including his twice a day walks), and who would love to receive his sweet snuggles and kisses. Because he is just a puppy, he also needs patient people who will continue to help him grow and develop into the best Archie he can be through gentle and positive training. He would be happiest and do best with another active, playful canine companion who would welcome him in with open paws and engage in play with him. Additionally, we are seeking a home with a safe and secured fenced yard for pottying purposes and so he can continue to enjoy his outdoor freedom in. Archie loves to be outside in the yard exploring, running, playing, and sunbathing and he would love a family who also loves the outdoors and would enjoy spending time outside with him. His home should be puppy proofed and have a basket full of toys and some interactive treat games. Because he is still gaining strength and stability following his knee surgery, he is still a bit cautious with slippery flooring so ideally his home would have limited stairs, carpet, or area rugs and runners down. He should not jump on and off furniture, now or ever, so he needs pet steps to the bed and couch and a family willing and able to give him a lift as needed. Lastly, Archie is an excellent car rider and rides safely and comfortably in his boosted car seat. He loves adventures and to tag along with you whenever he can, so we will ask that his family provide one for him.HOW TO APPLY 💻 As you can tell, Archie is just a fabulous young boy who will be such a wonderful addition to a lucky family.
