Violet, nicknamed “Bissy” for baby sissy, was an extra special Cavalier. Having developed a life-saving bond early in their relationship, her mom Shellie regularly referred to Violet as her “heart dog.”
Violet came from a pet store, before her mom knew that pet store puppies come from puppy mills. Having developed a heart murmur and other health issues at an early age, it was Violet’s story that inspired Shellie’s passion for working in rescue.Violet loved cookies, swimming and being her mom’s favorite. She enjoyed family trips to Lake Tahoe and the beach alongside her big brother, Olive, and a baby sister and brother who are littermates, Ginger and Jackson. Violet bravely fought Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) for months – with a spirit that never wavered – before complications from CHF, arrhythmia and pulmonary hypertension took her to heaven far too young. Violet passed peacefully in her mom’s arms, wagging her tail until the end.Violet's Fund was founded in honor of Cavaliers in need of hospice care. The Violet Fund, which supports our Hospice Program, and was named after a special girl, Violet 💜, who left this Earth two years ago today. Violet’s mom turned her grief and pain into purpose by turning her efforts to honor her girl by creating the fund to help the most medically fragile Cavaliers in need. Last year we raised money for the Violet Fund with a Virtual #VioletFundWalk 🐾, and now we are excited to announce this year’s Violet Fund Campaign...Today we are launching Violet Fund merchandise! UPDATE June 20, 2026: We are thrilled to share some incredible news - The Violet Fund has officially surpassed $100,000 raised! 💜🎉The Violet Fund supports our Hospice and Furever Foster Program, which provides lifelong care for Cavaliers who come into rescue and due to age, medical needs, or special needs, are best served by remaining under the care of The Cavalier Rescue and the foster families who love them 💕For these very special dogs, adoption is not the right path 🐾 Instead, they remain with their foster families, who know them best, while rescue provides everything they need to thrive - from specialty veterinary care, medications, diagnostics, treatments, therapies, comfort care, and all the little things that help make every day a good day.The 26 Cavaliers featured here are the dogs who have benefited from The Violet Fund and the generosity of a community that believes every Cavalier deserves exceptional, compassionate care, regardless of age, prognosis, or medical complexity. Each one a different story - cancer, blindness, heart disease, organ failure, mobility challenges, and the realities of advanced age. Some simply needed a place to call home on their final days. Because of The Violet Fund, they all have been able to remain exactly where they needed to be - surrounded by love, receiving the care they deserve, and living each day with comfort, dignity, and compassion.This milestone would not have been possible without Shellie, who established The Violet Fund as a beautiful legacy project in honor of her beloved Cavalier, Violet. What began as a tribute to one very special dog, has grown into a lifeline for so many others.
