Fostering saves lives
We are a foster based rescue. Our foster familes are critical to the success of our program. Our dogs are part of a loving family while rehabilitating. Fostering FAQ’s
What’s a pet foster family? |
A foster family provides care for the Cavalier just as if he/she were your own pet. TCR provides everything needed as well as care instructions. The foster family is responsible for keeping the Cavalier safe and clean, transporting to medical appointments, and the day-to-day care. |
Afraid you’ll get attached? |
Count on it! Providing foster care for a Cavalier in need is a special thing to do. Your heart will certainly be filled with joy as you watch the transformation that healing brings. Our foster families do have the option to adopt their foster pup if they are a great match. |
How long is the commitment? |
This varies based on the needs of the Cavalier. Some are in foster care for several weeks, while others may need months, or even longer. Hospice placements are "forever fosters". |
Do I need to keep my foster separate from my dogs? |
Your own pets should be comfortable with having a house guest for the time required. It's important to assess how all of your family members (2 legged and 4 legged) will accept a foster before applying. |
Can I feed them what my dogs eat? |
No. We provide food and treats for our Cavaliers. We do not allow them to be fed anything other than what we provide. Nutirition is very important and must be appropriate for the dog. We don't want our Cavaliers to become accustomed to feeding habits that we are not aware of which could affect their health and placement. |
What else is required? |
Love, patience, and a committment to follow the guidelines and care plans provided. Some Cavaliers may require low alone time, a fenced yard, and a compatible canine playmate. |
