Chester

Dallas, Texas
Male Age: 1 (DOB 6/2/2024) #12.25 Health TBA Adoption Donation: $650
Welcome in, Chester! 1 year old Chester (DOB 6/2/2024) was recently rescued out of a bad breeding situation by another rescue who then transferred him into our care. Chester is a ‘chocolate’ and tan Cavalier which is not breed standard coloring - breed standard is of course only blenheim, tricolor, ruby, and black and tan. In addition to their dark brown coats, chocolate Cavaliers also have light brown noses and golden or green eyes. Breeders should be prioritizing health and preservation over coloring. Breeders who are essentially playing with genes to produce rare and unique colors use this as a marketing tactic to attract buyers and increase their sales. If profit is prioritized over health, one should also question if profit is being prioritized over the welfare of the dogs. Buyer beware 🚩 Chester underwent his full intake vetting this afternoon and we will be sure to share a full medical update once all of his labwork results are in next week. In the meantime, Chester is settling into his foster home in Dallas, Texas 🏡💜
UPDATE JULY 29, 2024: When life turns you upside down, simply adjust your view 🫶🏼 📸 Starla in Birmingham, Alabama
UPDATE AUGUST 22, 2025: We recently introduced you to precious 1 year old Chester (DOB 6/2/2024) after he was rescued out of a bad breeding situation by another rescue who then transferred him into our care. Chester is being fostered in Dallas, Texas, and has now undergone his full intake vetting. In true puppy mill fashion, poor Chester is underweight and suffering with an infestation of intestinal parasites and giardia due to living in complete puppy mill filth. We are also treating him for ear infections. Thankfully these things are treatable and Chester got out before permanent damage is done. His eyes, knees, hips, and heart were found to be clear and congenitally sound at this time. Additionally, his heartworm and tick borne illness test was negative, and his urinalysis was normal. Once we rid him of the worms, parasites, and infection, Chester will undergo his neuter surgery. Unfortunately, worse than his physical health is his psychological health as it’s clear that his year in puppy mill hell has already greatly traumatized him. He is very fearful and skittish and clearly has not had positive exposure with humans. We are taking it slow with him and can’t wait for him to figure out he is now safe and loved, forever! 💕 You’ll notice that Chester’s coloring is not breed standard. He is what’s known as a ‘chocolate’ and tan Cavalier which have light brown noses and green or golden eyes. Rare and exotic colorings are very prevalent in puppy mills and other bad breeding operations as they care solely about profit and the ability to market something unique to be profitable for them. No reputable, ethical breeder whose priority is health and breed preservation is purposefully trying to produce outside of breed standard. But doesn’t the AKC recognize and register rare colors? The AKC cares about money and would accept a rainbow colored Cavalier if it meant they could make money off it. Don’t be confused about what being “AKC registered” means. This is often used to mislead buyers into thinking they are purchasing from a reputable breeder or getting a healthy dog. When really the AKC is simply a registry body - a registry that happens to make a lot of money off puppy mill dogs and is well known to oppose any legislation to help protect puppy mill dogs, like Chester, as it will negatively affect their pockets. Remember - until those in power do what needs to be done to end puppy mills, the best way we can combat them is by being smart, educated consumers who know better than to fall for the tricks and deception of bad breeders, and remain committed to only supporting reputable, ethical, responsible breeders and rescues. Remember, these places WOULD 👏🏼 NOT 👏🏼 EXIST 👏🏼 if people would stop buying puppies from them! Chester is one of the lucky ones who found his way out and to helpful, loving arms but there are SO many not as lucky.
UPDATE DECEMBER 29, 2025: Several of you have reached out asking about precious Chester in Dallas, Texas so it’s time for an update…Chester was rescued out of a puppy mill and came into our care emaciated and malnourished and suffering with ear infections, hookworms, and giardia. We successfully treated and cleared him of his infections and parasites, he has gained some much needed weight, and he underwent his neuter surgery which he is all recovered from. He is now a physically healthy 1.5 year old boy! While his physical ailments were easy to treat, the psychological and emotional trauma from his past puppy mill life sadly is not. His food issues, lack of socialization, and distrust in humans has created some significant behavioral issues that we are working on helping him with. He has been evaluated by a behavioral professional and we are implementing strategies, supplements, and techniques aimed to change his emotional response to triggers and help him build positive associations and calm behaviors. Together with his foster mom, we are committed to providing him with every resource and tool available to help him become a mentally and emotionally healthy boy and the opportunity for adoption and a happy furever. We hope to be able to share good pupdates and progress with you soon 💜
