MEET FRANCES 🐶Frances is a 3 year old beauty (DOB 5/9/2021) who came to us as a breeder release from a bad breeding operation. Rescue and freedom sure look good on this precious girl who is now healthy and ready to find her perfect match furever family who will cherish her and shower her with all the gentle love she has missed out on. MEDICAL 🩺Sweet Frances arrived into our care with eye and skin infections from neglect and living in filthy conditions but she responded well to treatment and her infections are now cleared. She also underwent her spay surgery and a dental cleaning (no extractions needed) in our care and is fully recovered. All her labwork including her fecal test, heartworm and tick borne illness test, urinalysis, and bloodwork is normal and negative, and we found her eyes, knees, hips, and heart to be clear and congenitally sound at this time. Frances is now up to date on vaccinations, spayed, had a recent dental, is microchipped, and on monthly preventatives. She is a healthy girl who is not on any medications and does not require any additional vetting outside of regular wellness checks at this time. FOOD & POTTY HABITS 🥘 Frances is smaller in size and at her ideal weight of 13.6 pounds. She is a gorgeous black and tan girl whose coat is growing in beautifully now that she is getting proper care and good nutrition. Frances is eating and enjoying her twice a day Fromm kibble meals in the morning and early evening which she eats in the kitchen alongside her Cavalier foster siblings with no issues. Supervision is needed at mealtime to ensure everyone stays at their own bowl. In typical Cavalier fashion, she also loves treats and is recognized and rewarded throughout the day for being the excellent girl that she is! She has learned to 'sit' for her treat and loves Fromm Crunchy-Os, and small pieces of healthy fruits and vegetables like cucumber, bananas, and blueberries. Her adopting family must remain committed to continuing her strictly portioned meals, healthy treats, and daily exercise/activity to ensure she remains at her ideal weight, best health, and best self. Although this is the first time that Frances has been in a home environment, she is doing wonderfully with her potty training as long as she is provided plenty of opportunities outside to be successful. She should be taken out first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and every few hours in between, including after meals. She does not 'signal' or alert that she needs to go out and so it is important that her people take the initiative to take her out frequently and routinely. Frances uses the safe and secured fenced yard in her foster home for going potty and should be supervised outside as she is still exploring everything with her mouth, and also to ensure she takes care of her potty business before coming back inside. Because she is a treat motivated, a special high value treat immediately following good potty behavior will be excellent reinforcement and reward for her. Please know that even though Frances is doing fantastic with her potty training, accidents are always to be expected especially initially while she transitions to another environment and routine. PERSONALITY 💕Frances's foster family describes her as smart, curious, and loving! In true Cavalier fashion, she loves companionship and is happiest being with her people and her Cavalier furiends. She can often be found cuddled up close to the people and dogs she loves or following every move her foster mom makes. Her foster mom says, "if I can't find her, she is usually right behind me!" Although everything around her is new, she is more curious and interested than she is afraid and is eager to learn and explore this big new world around her! She is thoroughly enjoying her new found freedom and loves to be outside in the yard where she runs, explores, and patrols for birds and squirrels. She has also come to appreciate all the comfy things that didn't exist in puppy mill life like sinking into soft blankets on the couch. ROUTINE ⏰Frances starts her day being let out into the yard for pottying and then back in for breakfast. She then spends much of the day with her foster family - being where they are and doing what they are doing, and enjoying a nice, leisurely, laid back lifestyle. Every few hours she is taken out into the fenced yard for pottying, fresh air, and play and in between then she can often be found relaxing and napping on the couch. During times when no humans are home, Frances and her Cavalier foster siblings stay in the gated off den/living area of the home which is puppy-proofed and where she has plenty of space, comforts, and companionship. She does well left for short periods of time but is of course happiest being with her people and so we are seeking a family where someone is able to be with her much of the day and where she will have low alone time. Frances has spent her life in confinement so she should not be crated or otherwise strictly confined and she does not need to be. In the evening, Frances enjoys her dinner and then hangs out with her foster family before it's last potty outside. When it is time for bed, Frances sleeps in the big bed where all little princesses belong. She sleeps peacefully knowing she is safe and sound snuggled up next to you. We are seeking a family who will continue to invite her to sleep with them and pet steps should be provided for her so she can safely get on and off the bed. SOCIALIZATION 💜Frances didn't have any human interaction or socialization in the puppy mill and so she can still be a bit cautious when meeting people. She looks to her foster family to help with the introduction and give her the encouragement and reassurance she is looking for to know the person and interaction is safe. She should be provided ample time and space to get to know you and warm up to you. If you are moving too quickly with her, especially with your hands around her head and face, she may let out a little growl to let you know her boundaries. This is in no way 'aggressive' and is her way to communicate her need and want for space and should be respected. Because she is still learning how to interact with people, we feel she would do best in an adult only home or a home with older, gentle children who can understand her puppy mill past, engage with her gently, and respect her boundaries. She is still learning new noises which can startle her - she will bark to alert that she heard something unusual and then seek her person out for comfort and reassurance. Frances gets along very well with her 3 other Cavalier foster siblings and since she is just learning how to be a dog, she looks to them to know what to do, where to go, and how to behave and follows their lead. Companionship is very important to her and she values her furry furiends especially in times when a human is not home or available. She does not engage in play with them but can often be found snuggled up close with them. She will be happiest and do best with another Cavalier(s) or other dog of similar size and mild temperament in the home. Energetic, active, and playful dogs are too much for her as she gets very overwhelmed - her perfect match would be a furiend who prefers Netflix and chill over toys and play. Frances has been exposed to a dog friendly cat in foster care and showed appropriate curiosity and so we feel she would do fine living with a cat who has been well socialized with dogs. Frances is not yet comfortable being on a leash and so any leash practicing should take place within the safety of a fenced yard, for her safety, until she becomes more comfortable with it and with encountering new noises, people, and things. She is enjoying car rides which gives her the opportunity to safely see, hear, and experience more of the world around her. She travels safely and comfortably in her Snoozer Lookout car seat and we will ask that her family get her one so she can continue to tag along with you whenever possible.IDEAL FAMILY & HOME 🏡Most importantly, Frances needs a family who has the time and ability to shower her with so much love and attention and make her an included and important member of their family. She also needs a patient family who will give her time and space to allow her to continue to bloom on her own time and all family members be on board with gentle touching and handling. We are seeking a family where someone can be with her much of the day and provide for her plenty of opportunities for quality time with her people. She would be happiest and do best sharing her home and life with a welcoming furry furiend for both companionship and leadership purposes. Frances needs a home with a safe and secured fenced yard for pottying purposes and so she can continue to enjoy her outdoor freedom - she loves to run, roam, and explore! In addition to a well maintained safe and secured fenced yard, Frances also needs a very puppy proofed home as she is very curious and exploring new things with her mouth - anything within her access is up for grabs and she is often head down looking for a new discovery! A puppy proofed home must be maintained for her safety. She is also super fast and could dart out an open door quickly and easily and so appropriate safety measures must be considered and in place. Lastly, she has become a pro going up and down the outdoor porch steps but is still intimated by the full flight of indoor steps and so she gets a lift - she is small and easy to tote.
