Jakey's Blankeys

Jakey's Blankeys mission is to provide love, security, warmth, and a sense of comfort to Cavalier King Charles Spaniels who are scared, sick, traumatized, abandoned, or otherwise in need through the gift of new and lovingly donated blankets. Jakey's Blankeys is a program through The Cavalier Rescue and inspired by Jake, a rescued Cavalier who loves his blanket. After a life of commercial breeding and neglect, #271, Jake, was rescued off the auction block on July 11, 2015 in Wheaton, Missouri and welcomed into Cavalier Rescue of Alabama. It was clear Jake, age 6 at the time, was suffering both emotionally and physically. Among many medical issues stemming from extreme neglect, Jake was also battling an aggressive cancer that was eating away at his jaw bone and had already spread to his lymph nodes. In addition to being sick and in pain, Jake was terrified of humans and this new world around him. One of the first new things Jake experienced was the warmth and comfort of a plush blanket wrapped around him. That very blanket became a source of security for Jake and wherever the blanket was, that's where Jake was. Jake's blanket traveled with him wherever he went and has provided comfort, warmth, and safety to him during difficult vetting visits and all his many 'firsts'.

Jake lost his battle to cancer in August of 2016 over a year after he was rescued out of a horrible puppy mill.  His special Jakey Blankey program continues to provide comfort to many Cavaliers in need including every Cavalier that comes in to The Cavalier Rescue's program.
