Kelly

New Orleans, Lousiana
Female Age: 3 (DOB 8/11/2023 ) 12# Health TBA Adoption Donation: TBA
Welcome in, Kelly 💜 We saw a post yesterday about a Cavalier needing help in Louisiana. Then we saw this photo, and our hearts sank💔 We knew that this little girl needed us. One of our wonderful volunteers was able to step in and secure her right away, and Kelly is now safely in our care and getting settled into her foster home in New Orleans. We don’t know the entirety of Kelly’s story, but we understand she came out of a bad breeding situation. What we can see tells us enough for now. Kelly is severely malnourished, with every rib, vertebra and hip bone visible beneath her poor coat. Whatever her life has looked like up until this point, she deserved better. Kelly will soon undergo her full intake vetting where we will start to learn more about her health and begin to address her every need and medical concern. Most importantly, she is safe. She already is enjoying nutritious meals, a warm lap, gentle hands, and all the time and love she needs to heal. All bad days are now a thing of the past. We’ll be sharing more about Kelly as we learn 💕

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 20, 2026: We have an important update on precious Kelly in New Orleans, Louisiana 💜Kelly came into rescue in extremely poor body condition - absolutely emaciated and desperately in need of answers. Her initial intake labwork raised some concerns that led us to pursue additional testing through the Texas A&M GI Laboratory, and we have now received those results.Kelly has been diagnosed with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). EPI is a condition in which the pancreas does not produce enough of the digestive enzymes needed to properly break down and absorb nutrients from food. So even though a dog may be eating - and may even have a very good appetite - her body essentially cannot access the nutrition it needs. Without treatment, dogs with EPI can experience significant weight loss, poor body condition, abnormal stools and dangerous nutritional deficiencies. This diagnosis gives us an explanation for Kelly’s severe emaciation and, most importantly, it gives us a way to help her 💕Treatment involves supplementing the pancreatic enzymes her body is missing with each meal, along with vitamins that she is deficient in . We are starting Kelly on treatment now, and we are very hopeful that she will have a wonderful response as her body finally begins receiving the nutrition it has been desperately needing. We will be sure to keep you posted 💜
