MEET GEMMA + KENLEY 🐶🐶Gemma (tri) & Kenley (blenheim) are sisters that were born on 11/22/2025 in one of the worst known puppy mills in the country. At 5 months old, they were sent to auction to be sold as breeding dogs where they would have endured a lifetime of neglect, reproductive abuse, and suffering.  We intercepted those plans when we rescued them off the auction block and brought them into rescue and to safety and a world full of love and care. The girls are being fostered together and make an excellent pairing. After everything they have been through side by side, we can't think of a better ending for them than to get their happy furever after, together. MEDICAL 🩺 Gemma & Kenley are now healthy 7 month old girls. They are up to date to vaccinations, microchipped, and on monthly preventatives.  We treated them for ear infections and intestinal parasites in our care which they are now clear of. Their eyes, knees, hips, and hearts were found to be clear and congenitally sound, and all of their labwork including their fecal test, heartworm and tick borne illness test, urinalysis, and bloodwork is now normal and negative. They will need to be spayed when age appropriate, which per our adoption agreement is by 12 months of age (by November 2026). FOOD & POTTY HABITS 🥘 The girls are in their long, lanky "teenager" stage, and both weigh between 15 and 16 pounds. They are eating a puppy formula kibble which they should continue on through 12 months of age. They are always excited for meal time and their foster family describes them as 'eager eaters'. They eat their twice a day meals in the kitchen side by side without issue. They are also enjoying treats that are offered to them throughout the day, and their favorite yak chews, as rewards for being the wonderful puppies that they are. These clever girls have learned the sound that the lid on the treat jar makes and will come running to the kitchen for a treat when they detect it. They are smart, pick up on things quickly, and learn best being praised! They will go home with a bag of their puppy food and favorite treats and chews.Considering Gemma & Kenley have just started their potty training, they are already off to a great start and can now go most days without an accident in their foster home.  They now have a general understanding that bathroom business happens outdoors and are taken out very frequently to ensure potty training success. Puppies have tiny bladders and need to be taken out first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and every couple of hours throughout the day including right after meals and immediately after waking up from naps. Otherwise, in addition to sticking closely to a schedule that allows for frequent trips outside for pottying, their family should watch for any cues or signals that they need to go, like pacing, and quickly direct them outside. They potty best being let out and supervised in a well maintained safe and secured fenced yard, receiving immediate praise after good potty behavior, and then a small treat upon coming back inside. They love being outside in the yard and are happy to go out. Please understand that while they are off to a great start with their potty training, they are just puppies and there will be accidents. Continued training will be needed and required for some time. PERSONALITY 💕Understandably, Gemma & Kenley were initially terrified upon being rescued, but have responded so well to love, care, and gentle exposures, are finding their confidence, and have bloomed beautifully over the past 2 months in foster care. They have realized that they are now safe and loved and are learning and adapting well to routines, and home and family life. Like any puppy, they have lots of energy and need plenty of opportunity for play and activity. Thankfully, they have each other - which means always having a friend and playmate available! They play extremely well together and love chasing each other around in the yard, romping, and wrestling. When they have run out of steam, they become cuddly little Cavaliers who will claim a lap if one is available, otherwise they will snuggle up sweetly with each other. In true Cavalier fashion, they are very loving, crave lots of attention and affection, and just want to be with you at all times. Wherever you are, they are only a step behind. ROUTINE ⏰ Gemma & Kenley rise at about 6am to take a quick trip outside in the yard for pottying, then come back in for more lounging.  The eat breakfast around 8am and then enjoy a leashed walk around the neighborhood, which they love. They then spend much of the day with their foster family, following them around and 'helping' them with whatever they can get into. They enjoy leisurely days filled with plenty of play, outdoor freedom in the yard, leashed strolls, relaxation, cav naps, and cuddles. The upstairs is gated off so they have free roam of the downstairs to enjoy at all times. Bathroom doors need to be kept closed as they have discovered the joy of toilet paper! While they have very low alone time in their foster home, during short periods of time when no humans are at home, they stay in the main living area of the home which is puppy proofed and are left together with their favorite chew and treats. They have not been crated, or otherwise strictly confined, and after spending the first 5 months of their life in confinement, we do not recommend that they are. They do well being left for short periods of time, but are certainly happiest being with their people and having lots of opportunity for activity, engagement, and play, so therefore, we are seeking a family where someone will be with them much of the day and where they will have low alone time. After dinner and pottying there is more play where the girls romp, wrestle, and expend the last of their energy before collapsing for the evening. After last potty outside, it's time for bed. The girls would love an invitation into the big bed to snuggle and sleep. They have not had any overnight accidents and pet steps up to the bed should be provided to them so they can safely get on and off the bed as they shouldn’t jump. SOCIALIZATION 💜Spending their first 5 months in a puppy mill, Gemma & Kenley were behind on their socialization but have been getting gentle, positive social experiences and exposures in their foster home and are learning that humans can be trusted, safe, and good. They want to meet and interact with people from a distance, but get scared once they are in close proximity, especially if they are reached for. Kenley is a bit more outgoing and brave than Gemma, but they both feel most comfortable hanging back and observing first. They should be given ample time to watch, learn, investigate, and then initiatie the interaction with gentle encouragement. Of course once they warm up and know you are good and safe, they want all the love and attention they can get. It is important to remember that everything is brand new to them and to go slowly with introductions and be intentional about making every exposure a positive interaction.Because positive human interactions and experiences are crucial at this time for their socialization, they should continue to have gentle opportunities to meet and interact with people. They have learned to walk on a leash which they are enjoying and which allows them to get and about and expand their little world as well as expend some energy. Because they can be easily scared and startled, we would encourage their family to continue safe leash walking practice in quiet, low traffic areas. They have also come to enjoy going for car rides and love to be able to tag along with you whenever they can. They ride together in their boosted car seat where they are safe and comfortable and can watch the world out the window. This is another wonderful, safe socialization opportunity for them and we are seeking a family who will include them in their daily activities. We will ask that their family provide a boosted car seat for them.Since the girls have each other for companionship, we are not requiring another dog in their furever home. However, they should still have opportunities to meet, interact, and have playdates with other friendly dogs. That said, they would also do well living with another Cavalier, or other dog of similar size and temperament, in the home. Their ideal match would be a dog who would happily share their toys, belongings, and humans, and tolerate their energy and puppy antics. They have not had any experience with cats while in our care so we are unsure how they would do living with a feline friend. IDEAL HOME & FAMILY 🏡 Most importantly, Gemma & Kenley need a family who will shower them with so much love and attention and make them included and important members of the family. They also need a gentle and patient family as there will be puppy accidents, antics, chewing, and mishaps, as well as an energetic family to keep up with them and meet their activity needs.  Because puppies need a lot of stimulation, activity, play, attention, socialization, training, and supervision, we are seeking a family where someone will be with them most of the day to allow for this. We feel the girls would be happy and do well in a fun, active adult only home, or a home with older (ages 12+), gentle, well behaved children with dog experience who know how to love and engage with them appropriately and gently, and know to keep their things safely out of puppy reach as anything within reach is up for grabs. A full toy box should be available to them at all times to prevent them from chewing on things they shouldn't. We are also seeking a home with a safe and secured fenced yard for potty purposes and so that they can continue to enjoy their outdoor freedom - they love being out in the yard where they can expend much of their puppy energy and would love a family who also likes to spend time outdoors with them. They must be supervised outside at all times as puppies will be puppies and try to put everything in their mouths. Yards should be well maintained and puppy proofed, and fences that are not 'privacy' may need to be reinforced to prevent slipping through gaps. In addition to a safe outdoor area for pottying and play, we will also be looking for a very 'puppy proofed' home. Anything within reach of the pup is up for grabs and so ensuring both the inside and outside of the home can and will be well maintained for their safety is imperative. Puppies are fearless leapers and so pet steps to the sofa and bed should be provided to them and encouraged to use to safely get on and off furniture. HOW TO APPLY 💻 Gemma & Kenley are precious puppies who are finding their confidence and loving their new life filled with toys, treats, freedom, family, and love, and will continue to blossom and thrive in their perfect furever home. Because they are a perfect pairing, they already have built-in companionship, are self-entertaining with mutual play, and have each other for support during their time of transition into their new home - 2 truly is better than 1!
