MEET MISHKA πΆ
Last month we welcomed in darling 7 year old Mishka as an owner surrender after her owner was facing medical issues and was unable to continue her care. It has been a joy and pleasure to have little Mishka in our care, but she is now ready to make her next and last move to her perfect furever family.
MEDICAL π©Ί
Vetting revealed that Mishka is still congenitally sound with clear eyes, knees, hips, and heart. Additionally, all of her labwork including her fecal test, heartworm and tick borne illness test, urinalysis, and bloodwork was all normal and negative. We did treat her for ear infections and she underwent her spay surgery and a much needed dental in our care where she lost 16 bad teeth that she isn't missing one bit. She is now up to date on vaccinations, spayed, had a recent dental, is microchipped, and on monthly preventatives. She is not on any medication and does not require any additional vetting outside of regular wellness checks at this time. Mishka is a healthy 7 year old girl!
FOOD & POTTY HABITS π₯
Precious Mishka is a beautiful tricolor girl who is typical in size and at her ideal weight of 14.4 pounds. Like most Cavaliers, she is a little foodie and is very enthusiastic for her twice a day meals and always licks the bowl clean! She eats alongside her Cavalier foster sister with no issue. She also gets healthy treats throughout the day and is enjoying blueberries, carrots, and green beans. Her adopting family should remain committed to her portioned meals, healthy treats, and daily activity to ensure she remains at her ideal weight, best health, and best self.
Good girl Mishka has proven to be reliably potty trained in her foster home, having had no accidents. That said, she is provided with plenty of opportunities outside to be successful and is never asked to "hold it" for a long period of time. She is taken out first thing in the morning, last thing at night and every few hours in between including after meals. She is let out into the safe and secured fenced yard for pottying and is happy to go out as she loves being outside. Being food motivated, a special treat following good potty behavior will be excellent reward and reinforcement for her. Please understand that while Mishka is reliable in her foster home, accidents are always to be expected, especially initially while she transitions to another environment and routine.
PERSONALITY π
Mishka is a precious little princess who loves lots of affection and attention and is happiest just being with her person. She also loves to be outside - relaxing and sunbathing on the screened porch, going for golf cart rides, or her favorite - going to the beach where we see her most animated! Inside she likes to do plenty of relaxing and likes to be perched up on a pillow or swallowed up in plush blankets - where all princesses belong! She would be happiest and do best in a family where someone is able to spend a lot of time loving and doting on her. Her biggest need and want is quality time spent with her person.
ROUTINE β°
Mishka likes to sleep in and when she must get up, she goes out to potty, back in for breakfast, and then enjoys relaxed leisurely days spent with her foster mom and Cavalier foster sister exploring in the yard, sunbathing on the porch, going for a leashed stroll around the neighborhood, following foster mom around the house, napping, and snuggling. While Mishka spends most of the day with her foster family, during short periods of time when there are no humans at home, Mishka and her Cavalier foster sister stay in a puppy proofed living area of the home where she has plenty of space, comforts, and companionship. Mishka exhibits some anxiety when her humans leave the home mostly in the form of vocalization (barking and whining) and some pacing. To help reduce anxiety at the time of parting, she is given a Kong with peanut butter to help distract and ease her. While these behaviors have greatly improved over the time sheβs been in her foster home, and we anticipate that she will continue to improve, it is likely that she will regress in a new home and environment until she once again learns that she is safe and sound. That said, she is certainly happiest being with her people and having plenty of opportunities for interaction and attention, and so we are seeking a family where someone will be with her much of the day and where she will have very low alone time.
In the evenings, she enjoys dinner around 6:30pm and then goes out for last potty at 10pm. Mishka then uses the pet steps to get safely into the big bed and find her perfect spot right atop a pillow. She sleeps peacefully through the night knowing she is safe and sound close to you. She would not do well being asked to sleep apart from you and so we are seeking a family who will continue to welcome her into the big bed with them and provide pet steps for her to safely get on and off.
SOCIALIZATION π
Mishka is not a social butterfly and instead prefers to keep her circle small with people she knows and trusts. When meeting new people she is very cautious and will bark to get that message across. But if you give her the time and space to sniff you out and figure out that you are no threat to her, she will warm up and accept pets from most. She can get overwhelmed with too much activity, noise, and people, and so she would be happiest and do best in a more quiet, peaceful adult only home without a lot of people in and out. She loves to be at home with her people or enjoy safe socialization opportunities and activities with her human like leashed strolls through the neighborhood, golf cart rides, or car rides. She is a wonderful traveler and rides safely and comfortably in her boosted car seat where she quickly falls asleep. She loves to be able to tag along and accompany you as much as possible. We are seeking a family who will include her in their daily activities and ask that they provide her with a boosted car seat.
Mishka shares her foster home with a Cavalier foster sister who she gets along with very well. While she is not interested in play, it's clear that she enjoys the canine companionship as she can be found sticking close by her foster sister and often cuddled up next to each other. She is used to sharing her home with a furry furiend and because of her separation anxiety, we do not feel like she would do well alone and needs the comfort and security of having a canine companion with her especially in times when a human is not at home. Her ideal match would be another adult Cavalier or other dog of similar mild, gentle temperament, and who enjoys the couch and cuddles more than activity and play. She does initially bark at new dogs that she encounters, but once given ample time to meet, sniff, and understand that they are no threat to her, she is fine with them. She has not encountered any cats while in our care so we are unsure how she would do with a feline furiend in the home.
IDEAL FAMILY & HOME π‘
Most importantly, Mishka needs a loving, committed family who has the time and ability to shower her with so much love and attention and make her an included and important member of the family. Therefore, we are seeking a family where someone will be with her most of the day and provide for her plenty of opportunities for quality time with her people. Because of her separation anxiety that we anticipate will show when in a new home and family until she is fully acclimated, she also needs a patient and understanding family who can help her feel loved, safe, and reassured especially during the time of transition. She will thrive best in a quiet adult only home with a mild, gentle canine companion who can be a constant comfort to her. We are also seeking a home with a safe and secured fenced yard as she is loving her outdoor freedom.
