Welcome in, Reagan! We rescued Reagan (and Rowan) out of a bad breeding operation which is thankfully closing their doors 🙌🏼 We do not have any records or information on her, but believe she is about 9 years old. She has now undergone her full intake vetting and we will have a medical update to share with you soon. In the meantime, she’s making herself comfy and cozy in her foster home in Atlanta, Georgia where her foster mom reports that she is a sweet angel 🤍
UPDATE DECEMBER 4, 2025: Yesterday, we introduced you to precious Reagan who we recently rescued out of a bad breed operation. We were not provided any records or information on her so we do not know her date of birth but believe she is about 9 years old. Reagan has now undergone her full intake vetting. She received a through physical exam and full labwork and because we didn’t receive any records, we sent off titer tests for distemper and parvo which showed positive immunity. Her heartworm and tick borne illness test was negative and bloodwork was normal, but like all puppy mill dogs, she tested positive for intestinal parasites which she is being now being treated for. Her physical exam revealed several abnormalities. Her tear test was low meaning that she does not product an adequate amount of tears to keep her eyes sufficiently lubricated. This results in irritation, inflammation, and ulceration which she has evidence of with corneal scarring. We are starting her on a tear stimulant eye drop to help boost her tear production as well as using artificial tears to supplement her production and keep her eyes lubricated and comfortable. She also has ear infections which she is receiving treatment for. While her knees and hips were found to be clear, a significant heart murmur was detected and so she received a full cardiac workup and echocardiogram. Like most all older Cavaliers, Reagan has mitral valve disease (MVD) which has progressed quite a bit and she would have greatly benefited from starting heart medication much sooner. She does have significant left sided changes/enlargement due to her insufficient mitral valve and so she has started Pimobendan which reduces the workload of the heart and helps to slow down further progression of her MVD. While anesthesia isn’t ideal for a dog like her with progressed heart disease, she is desperately in need of a dental and has 2 mammary masses that need to be removed and sent out for testing. She also needs to be spayed. Working with her medical team and implementing all precautions, we will be tackling these procedures over the next month.Reagan is being fostered in Atlanta, Georgia where she is so happy to finally have a warm home, comfy bed, good food, and loving care 💜
UPDATE JANUARY 4, 2026: Last month we welcomed in precious Reagan after rescuing her out of a bad breeding operation. We were not provided any records or info on her so we do not know her date of birth but believe she is about 9 years old.
Her intake vetting revealed 3 small mammary masses that would need to be removed at the time of her spay surgery and sent out for testing. Reagan has now undergone these procedures and is resting and recovering in her foster home in Atlanta, Georgia ❤️‍🩹 We have gotten the biopsy results back - 2 of the masses were benign, while 1 was identified as a grade 1 malignant/cancerous mass. Thankfully the margins were clean 🙌🏼 and grade 1 masses have a low rate of reoccurrence and metastasis 🙌🏼 So it looks like we got our girl just in time before this could have progressed and turned devastating for her and her outcome, whew.
Reagan has large abdominal incisions and some post operative swelling so she’s bandaged for some compression and continues on antibiotics. We will be sure to let you know when she’s all healed up 💕
*Sadly, breeding dogs are at a significantly higher risk of developing mammary tumors and cancer due to prolonged exposure to female sex hormones. The risk rises significantly with each heat cycle. Pair that with the reproductive abuse, poor and inhumane living conditions, and complete lack of veterinary care that puppy mill mamas endure and it’s recipe for suffering
