MEET SANSA 🐶Beautiful Sansa, who just turned 1 year old (DOB 9/25/2023), came into our care as an owner surrender. She was surrendered due to "unexpected stress" in the family's life. The family had recently acquired her from another family and so you can see that poor Sansa has really lacked stability in this first year of her life. She has done so well in her foster home and is beyond ready to settle down with her truly furever committed family who will provide for her all the stability, love, and care she could ever want!MEDICAL 🩺Sansa is a healthy 1 year old girl! She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, and on monthly preventatives. We found her eyes, knees, hips, and heart to be clear and congenitally sound at this time. Additionally, all of her labwork including her fecal test, heartworm and tick borne illness test, urinalysis, and bloodwork is normal and negative. She arrived with ear infections which have now been effectively treated and cleared. Sansa is not on any medication and does not require any additional vetting outside of regular wellness checks at this time. FOOD & POTTY HABITS 🥘 Sansa is a larger Cavalier but also arrived to us overweight. She is now down to 27 pounds which we feel is just a couple pounds away from her ideal weight. Like most Cavaliers, she loves her food and is very excited for meal time! She enjoys her twice a day kibble meals where she always licks her bowl clean. She also loves treats and now expects a Fromm Crunchy O treat each time she comes in from going potty outside like a good girl. This is great reward and reinforcement for this little foodiel! It is important that Sansa's adopting family continue her strictly portioned meals, low calorie treats, and daily exercise and activity to help her reach her ideal weight, best health, and best self! Sansa has been impressive with her potty training, having had no accidents in her foster home since arriving! That said, she is provided with plenty of opportunities outside to be successful. She should be taken out first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and every few hours in between including right after meals to ensure continued success. Sansa is taken out to potty on a leash in her foster home. Please know that even though Sansa has proven to be reliable in her foster home, accidents are always to be expected, especially initially while she learns and transitions to yet another environment and routine. PERSONALITY 💕Sansa's foster family describes her as playful, smart, loving, and a bit goofy! Like a typical one year old, she is very active and playful and if she isn't sleeping, then she is on the move! She enjoys playing chase with her Cavalier foster siblings, zooming around the house, and loves playing with toys especially if they have a squeaker! She is also incredibly loving and in true Cavalier fashion, wants to be with her people all of the time - preferably touching you or smothering you! She doesn't want to be left behind and so she will follow you on her heels wherever you go. She loves cuddles, snuggles, and will shower you with love and kisses! This silly girl has a thing for toilet paper and will steal the roll right off the holder if the bathroom door is open. She also loves ice, fetching balls, and can often be found parading around the house with one of her favorite toys in her mouth. She will fill her new home with so much fun, love, and laughter! Because she is still just a pup, she does need plenty of opportunity for play, activity, and interaction.ROUTINE ⏰Sansa will wake you up by smothering you with love and gets up around 7:30am and goes out for quick potty before breakfast time. She then spends much of the day with her foster mom and Cavalier foster siblings as they accompany her while she works in the home office. There, they play and sleep on repeat and take several trips outside throughout the day for pottying, fresh air, and sunshine. While she spends most of the day with her foster family, during short periods of time when there are no humans at home, Sansa stays contained in a gated off puppy proofed area of the home with her Cavalier foster siblings where she has comforts and companionship. She does well left for short periods of time but is certainly happiest being with her people and being active and so we are seeking a family where someone is able to be with her much of the day and where she will have low alone time and plenty of time for play and activity. In the evenings, Sansa enjoys her dinner and then goes for a leashed walk around the neighborhood. She then enjoys couch and cuddle time with her foster family until it is final potty outside and time to go to bed. She is sleeping in the big bed which she loves. She likes to get under the covers and curls up right alongside her foster mom, sleeping well knowing she is safe and sound and ready to recharge for another fun day ahead! She would not do well asking to sleep apart from her people and so we are seeking a family who will continue to invite her into the big bed with them, where all Cavaliers belong. Pet steps should be provided so that she can safely get on and off the bed.SOCIALIZATION 💜Sansa is a friendly girl who enjoys meeting people when she is out and about around the neighborhood. She is happy to receive gentle pets from all willing to give them and if you're lucky, you may even get a kiss back! She is not easily startled or scared and we feel she would do well in an active adult only home or a home with older (age 8+), gentle well-behaved children who have had dog experience and know how to engage with her gently, appropriately, and know to respect her space and boundaries. Sansa is a very smart girl and seems to pick up on things very quickly. We think she would be a star student in puppy classes and that positive based training classes would be be an excellent thing for her and her new family to do together. Sansa shares her foster home with two other Cavaliers who welcomed her in and whom she gets along with very well. She loves to play with them and they have a lot of fun together playing chase, tug of war, and fetching balls! She is learning important things like how to share her toys which was new to her in the beginning. Still, playtime and toys should be supervised so that good sharing can be rewarded and reinforced and any possessive/guarding behaviors can be corrected. When they aren't playing together, the dogs can all be found snuggled up together while they snooze. It's obvious that she really enjoys their companionship and would be happiest and thrive best with another playful canine companion in her furever home. Her perfect match would be another young, active, playful Cavalier(s) or other dog of similar temperament who will engage in play and puppy antics with her, but also welcome her cuddles and snuggles. She has not been exposed to any cats in our care so we are unsure how she would do living with a feline furiend.Sansa walks beautifully on a leash and enjoys her neighborhood leashed walks which her family should continue with her. Sansa also travels well in the car and enjoys car rides and being able to tag along with you whenever possible. She rides safely and comfortably in her elevated car seat where she is secured in with her harness. She loves having the window down and feeling the wind in her face! We will ask that her family provide a car seat for her and will be seeking a family who will include her in their daily activities. IDEAL HOME & FAMILY 🏡Most importantly, Sansa needs and deserves a family who has the time, ability, and desire to shower her with so much love and attention and make her an included and important member of their family. She also needs a patient family with the time and energy to meet the needs of an active puppy and provide for her plentiful daily opportunities for activity, play, and socialization. Therefore, we are seeking a family where someone is able to be with her much of the day and where she will have low alone time. She would do very well in an active and fun home, but not a busy family who would lack the time to devote to her. Her home should be puppy proofed and come ready with a full toy basket and playful canine companion who would welcome her in with open paws.Because Sansa is leash trained, we are not requiring a safe and secured fenced yard in her furever home as long as she has ample indoor space to be able to run and play. Please understand that per our adoption agreement, if she is not in a safe and secured fenced yard that she must be on a leash at all times when outdoors. If you do have a fenced yard, we are certain she would enjoy her outdoor freedom!HOW TO APPLY 💻 Sansa's foster family says, "Sansa is a very sweet and smart girl who will make a wonderful family member!
