Welcome in, Stella Rose! Sweet Stella Rose, who goes by Rosie, is a precious 13 year old girl who comes to us after her elderly owner entered a medical facility and sadly will not be coming out. She needed a new home and family to love her and take care of her and thankfully we had the pawfect spot πΎ ready for her in Dallas, Texas where she is being fostered π‘π
While she is grieving the loss of her owner and the home and life she knew, she is receiving lots of gentle love and comfort from her foster mom and Cavalier foster siblings. We will share Rosieβs full medical update soon π
DECEMBER 28, 2024: We recently introduced you to sweet Stella Rose who goes by Rosie - Rosie is a precious 13 year old girl who came to us after her elderly owner was hospitalized and has sadly since passed away. Rosie needed a new home and family to love her and take care of her and thankfully we had the pawfect spot ready for her in Dallas, Texas where she is being fostered π‘π Rosie has now undergone her full intake vetting and is in overall good shape for a super senior girl! Her fecal test, heartworm, and tick borne illness test was negative, and urinalysis was normal. The majority of her bloodwork looked great but her kidney values were quite high, despite her urinalysis being normal. We ran some additional testing to rule out kidney disease and when that came back normal, we turned to an internist for a kidney ultrasound to explore a possible kidney stone, infection, or tumor. No stones or growths were detected but there was evidence of infection found and Rosie is currently being treated with antibiotics. We are thankful this is treatable and the additional testing ran let us know that her kidney function is still great! She will soon return to the vet to recheck her kidney values and we hope to see much improvement there. To be expected, a heart murmur was also detected at her intake vetting and so she met with a cardiologist for a full cardiac evaluation and echocardiogram. Rosie, like almost all older Cavaliers, has mitral valve disease (MVD). Her insufficient mitral valve has started to cause some remodeling/enlargement and so once her kidney infection is all clear, she will begin Pimobendan - a heart medication used to help slow down any further progression of her heart disease. She will remain under the care of a cardiologist and will have a recheck echocardiogram due in 6 months.Otherwise, little 13 pound Rosie just has some typical normal aging changes. We have started her on a daily joint supplement to help support her aging joints. She has settled comfortably into her foster home and her foster mom reports she loves going for strolls around the neighborhood πΎ We will be sure to give you a pupdate after we recheck her kidney values βοΈ
