WWelcome in, Totes 💜Totes is a darling 10 year old boy (DOB 1/26/2016) who comes into our care as an owner surrender after changes in his family’s housing and living situation left him needing to come into rescue. He’s settling into his foster home in Canton, Georgia, and will undergo his full intake vetting tomorrow. We will share a medical update once all of his lab results are in.
UPDATE AUGUST 7, 2026: We recently introduced you to precious 10 year old Totes (DOB 1/26/2016), who came into our care as an owner surrender after his family faced housing challenges and could no longer provide for his care. He has now completed his full intake vetting.
Totes is quite overweight at 30 pounds and needs to lose about 6 pounds to reach his ideal weight. He has been started on a portion-controlled weight management diet. He also has some aging changes to his joints and the weight loss is important to reducing his strain and discomfort. We are also starting him on a daily joint supplement.
A significant audible heart murmur was also detected during his exam. Unfortunately, this is a common finding in senior Cavaliers due to mitral valve disease, which of course plagues the breed. Totes is scheduled for an echocardiogram on August 20th so we can determine the stage of his heart disease and whether it’s time to begin heart medication.
His heartworm and tick-borne illness tests were negative, and his bloodwork and urinalysis were all within normal limits. His fecal test was positive for hookworms, which he is now receiving treatment for.
Totes is already neutered and microchipped and we are currently awaiting the results of his vaccine titer testing, which will help us determine whether any vaccinations are needed to keep him protected.
Adorable Totes is settling into his foster home in Canton, Georgia, where he’s already beginning his journey toward a healthier, happier future 💜
