Welcome in, Willa! Willa is a sweet but scared little girl who will turn 3 years old in January. An Amish puppy miller quite literally dumped her off his property and thankfully she found her way to us where she is safe, sound, and loved and now has the opportunity for a happy furever 💜 Willa is undergoing her intake vetting today in Atlanta, Georgia, and will soon make the short trip over to Birmingham, Alabama to settle into her foster home 🏡 We will be sure to share her medical update once all her labwork results are in 🧪
UPDATE JANUARY 5, 2025: It’s officially hibernating season 🐻❄️

DECEMBER 23, 2024: We recently introduced you to sweet but scared little Willa after an Amish puppy miller quite literally dumped her off his property. Thankfully she found her way to us where she is safe, sound, and loved and now has the opportunity for a happy furever. Willa will turn 3 years old next week (DOB 1/2/2022) and has now undergone her full intake vetting.
12 pound Willa is being treated for intestinal parasites, ear infections, and a urinary tract infection. As evident by her extremely stained fur, she has been living in complete filth in an inhumane puppy mill. Her infections will soon be rechecked and when cleared, she will undergo her spay surgery and dental. Her eyes, knees, hips, and heart were found to be clear and congenitally sound at this time.
Willa is being fostered in Birmingham, Alabama and is coming around a little bit everyday which is all we can really ask of her. We will continue to give her all the time, gentle love, and encouragement she needs to start to figure she is safe and loved 💕
JANUARY 20, 2024: Little Willa in Birmingham, Alabama just had a great vet recheck and celebrated with a pup cup🍦 3 year old Willa is now all healed up from her spay surgery, her ears are now all clear following treatment for infection, and her fecal test is now negative following treatment for hookworms ✔️ While in her normal stance and gait, both knees feel tight and stable with no luxation, we’ve noticed some instability of her right knee only when she’s in full extension. We’re going to have our awesome orthopedic doctor evaluate her just to be sure no interventions are needed. Her appointment is 2/6 and we will be sure to post an pupdate 🐾
FEBRUARY 6, 2025: Yesterday, our sweet little Willa met with our orthopedic specialist 🦴 at @vovcbham regarding her intermittent right knee lameness and discomfort due to her medial luxating patella (unstable knee). While right now it doesn’t always give her problems, the concern is that it will more so down the road and lead to early arthritis and likely a canine cruciate ligament rupture. Willa just turned 3 years old and is a young, active, fast💨 girl who we certainly don’t want held back by knee discomfort or issues down the road. Therefore, patella stabilization surgery was recommended.
In order to set her (and her eventual adopting family) up for the best outcome possible, we are going to move forward with that recommendation and she is scheduled to undergo surgery on 2/17 🗓️ She has the very best surgeon and will be in excellent hands! 💜
MARCH 1, 2025: Little 3 year old Willa in Birmingham, Alabama is 11 days post op her right knee stabilization surgery and as you can see her incision is healing beautifully and her rest and recovery is going well, thanks to the help of some toys and chews to keep this girl engaged and busy! She’s got 4 more weeks of strict rest orders 📝 before she will return back to see her wonderful orthopedic surgeon who will clear her to begin some physical therapy and very gentle movement to get her range of motion back. We will be sure to keep you posted on how she is doing 💕
MARCH 24, 2025: Cute little Willa in Birmingham, Alabama is close to 6 weeks post op her knee stabilization surgery and has been cleared to begin some gentle therapy to help regain her motion and strength… so she hit the pool for a little hydrotherapy 💦
3 year old Willa came to us from a puppy mill and so we feel certain this is the first time she’s been in water so we took it very slowly. New things are very scary for undersocialized puppy mill dogs so it’s all about ensuring a positive experience to help create positive association to new things. She was a very brave girl and we are so proud of her for giving it a go 💪🏽
